Brand Identity Explainer Video for UKRI

As long-standing and trusted partners of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) since its formation, we were recently commissioned to create a brand identity explainer video designed specifically for internal audiences. The objective of this project was to help UKRI staff better understand the importance of maintaining brand consistency and the thought process behind the creation and refinement of visual identity elements, such as logos. The video serves as a clear, engaging, and accessible tool that explains how a unified brand identity supports stronger internal cohesion and external recognition, especially as UKRI expands its influence across diverse platforms and stakeholder communities.

Why Brand Identity Matters for Internal Engagement

Maintaining a cohesive and recognisable brand is essential for any large organisation. UKRI wanted to ensure that all employees, regardless of department or familiarity with branding, could grasp the reasoning behind key visual identity decisions. The brand identity explainer video was designed to demystify the branding process by presenting it in simple terms. It showed how visual consistency builds trust, professionalism and recognition on both national and international levels.

For any large and multifaceted organisation, a strong and coherent brand identity is essential. UKRI recognised that as the organisation grows, ensuring staff at all levels understand and align with the brand’s visual language is a strategic priority.

Many employees across various departments may not be directly involved in design, marketing or communications. However, their work often contributes to how UKRI is represented, whether through reports, presentations, or digital content. With this in mind, the brand identity explainer video was created to demystify the branding process by simplifying concepts and focusing on clarity. It illustrates how visual consistency builds credibility, enhances professionalism, and strengthens recognition across both national and international contexts.

Designing the Brand Identity Explainer Video

To bring this concept to life, we drew inspiration from the clean and modern design aesthetics used by global leaders such as Apple, Google and Adobe. The visual language of the animation was deliberately minimalist, using clean lines, purposeful transitions and a refined colour palette to maintain clarity and focus. Each frame was carefully constructed to reflect UKRI’s values of simplicity, accessibility and professionalism, aligning with its organisational tone.

Communicating Branding Principals Through Animation

The brand identity explainer video explored the core elements of logo development and visual identity. It demonstrated how small design choices such as font, spacing, alignment and colour contribute to the perception of a brand. Using engaging visuals and straightforward language, the animation helped employees from all backgrounds understand and appreciate the logic behind the organisation’s branding strategy. The goal was to not only inform, but also to empower teams to take ownership of a shared identity.

Clear, Inclusive and Accessible Messaging
