Celebrating Disability
Disability Inclusion Animation for Celebrating Disability
At Cass Productions, we specialise in producing powerful, purpose-driven media, like this disability inclusion animation created in close collaboration with Celebrating Disability. The goal of this project was to help the general public better understand the crucial distinction between accessibility and inclusion, and why that difference matters in both everyday life and professional environments.
Celebrating Disability provides awareness training, workplace consultancy, and keynote speaking services designed to shift mindsets and create genuinely inclusive spaces. To support their mission, they commissioned us to develop an engaging animated film that could clearly, creatively, and sensitively communicate these essential ideas.
What Is a Disability Inclusion Animation?
A disability inclusion animation is a highly effective form of storytelling that promotes empathy, challenges assumptions, and encourages inclusive practices. Unlike traditional content that simply relays information, animation allows us to represent abstract ideas and lived experiences through visual metaphors, character-driven storytelling, and emotionally engaging design.
For this project, our role was to ensure that every frame delivered not only clarity, but also respect. Working closely with Celebrating Disability founder Emily Yates and her team, we crafted a short film that now serves as a practical and inspiring resource for:
Diversity and inclusion training
Conferences and speaking engagements
Social media awareness campaigns
Internal HR initiatives and onboarding
It’s designed to be widely shareable, easy to understand, and suitable for multiple audiences, from leadership teams to front-line staff.
Our Creative Approach
We began the creative process by developing a set of unique, relatable characters representing a range of disability experiences. From visible impairments to invisible conditions, these characters were crafted to reflect a diversity of lived realities.
The animation is structured around a visual journey that contrasts two scenarios:
One where accessibility features are present, but inclusion is lacking
One where accessibility and inclusion work together to form equitable, welcoming spaces
This contrast helped illustrate the key message: access isn’t enough without true inclusion.
Key steps in our production process included:
Scriptwriting based on lived experience and educational goals
Storyboarding and character design with feedback from Celebrating Disability
Voiceover casting and direction to ensure authenticity and clarity
2D animation and motion graphics tailored to the brand and message
Sound design and editing to elevate the emotional impact
By combining animation with expert insights, we created a piece that resonates deeply and drives reflection.
Accessibility vs Inclusion: What’s the Difference?
The heart of this disability inclusion animation lies in communicating a subtle but vital truth: accessibility is not the same as inclusion.
Accessibility refers to the removal of physical and digital barriers, such as ramps, screen readers, or hearing loops, that make participation possible.
Inclusion, however, goes further. It means that disabled individuals are truly welcomed, heard, valued, and involved in shaping the environments they are part of.
Through vibrant visuals, expressive animation, and carefully scripted narration, the film encourages viewers to consider how workplaces and communities can move beyond compliance to foster genuine belonging.
Client Collaboration and Impact
The team at Celebrating Disability played an integral role throughout the process. Their lived experience, insights, and feedback shaped every creative decision, from tone and pacing to character movement and colour palette.
The final film is now being used in:
Workplace inclusion training sessions
Corporate presentations
Social media campaigns across Hampshire and the UK
Advocacy events and virtual outreach initiatives
Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Viewers praise the animation’s clarity, emotional impact, and respectful representation of disability-related themes. It’s helping shift conversations from “what do we have in place?” to “how do we make people feel like they truly belong?”
