Making complex science accessible
The BBC Bitesize team commissioned us to bring GCSE Chemistry topics to life with clarity, creativity and scientific accuracy.
We worked closely with educational consultants, subject-matter experts and BBC content producers to ensure each animation aligned with the WJEC curriculum while remaining engaging and easy to follow for students.
This collaborative approach allowed complex subjects to be translated into clear visual stories without compromising the underlying science.
From script to finished animation
Our in-house animation team managed the production process from concept through to final delivery, including:
- script development and editing
- storyboarding
- character and background design
- 2D animation and motion graphics
- voiceover production
- subtitles, music and sound design
- English and Welsh versions
Managing the creative process within one team helped maintain visual consistency across all 11 films while accommodating the additional complexity of bilingual delivery.
Visualising complex concepts
Topics included atomic structure, bonding, chemical reactions and energy changes. We used visual metaphors, step-by-step sequences, on-screen terminology and motion graphics to turn abstract scientific concepts into information students could understand more easily.
The animations were designed to work across classroom teaching, revision and independent learning.
