This video of PhD student John-Joseph Marie is one of our favourite university filming projects. We produced 4, 2-minute videos to showcase the experiences of Faraday Institution PhD students and how their research links to real-world applications. The aim is to inspire secondary school children and undergraduates to consider careers in STEM in general, and battery research through the Faraday Institution in particular. This video combines stunning aerial shots of JJ sailing at a reservoir with footage of him in his research environment with his colleagues.

Pre-production was a key part of this project. Each interviewee was contacted for a pre-production call before the university filming took place. This allowed our producer to build a relationship with each person while gathering details that can be overlooked or omitted in a interview’s high-pressure environment.
