LGA Mixed Media Film

Mixed Media Film Production for the LGA’s Pathways to Planning Scheme

We were proud to deliver a comprehensive mixed media film production for the Local Government Association (LGA) after winning a competitive tender. The project’s aim was to promote their new Pathways to Planning graduate scheme, an initiative designed to attract and inspire the next generation of urban and environmental planners.

As a production company with extensive experience in public sector storytelling across Hampshire and the UK, we were responsible for all aspects of this mixed media film, including scriptwriting, casting, producing, live-action filming, animation, illustration, and editing. The final product effectively combines real-world footage with vibrant, branded animation to create a cohesive, engaging, and informative piece.

What Is Mixed Media Film Production?

Mixed media film production combines various forms of visual content, such as live-action video, animation, kinetic text, and motion graphics, into a unified narrative. This approach is particularly useful for educational, promotional, and public sector projects where complex information needs to be made accessible and engaging for a wide audience.

For this project, we blended traditional filming techniques with custom illustration and animation inspired by the visual identity of the Pathways to Planning programme. The result is a film that is both informative and visually dynamic.

Promoting Planning Careers Through Storytelling

The Pathways to Planning scheme is a graduate pathway designed to bring fresh talent into the planning sector. Planners play a vital role in shaping the communities we live in, managing the development of homes, roads, parks, and infrastructure while balancing environmental, economic, and social considerations.

The film we produced tells the story of what it means to be a planner today. It highlights the wide range of opportunities within local councils and demonstrates how planning professionals directly impact people’s lives. From climate change and sustainability to housing accessibility and community design, the narrative communicates the importance and diversity of planning careers.

Creative Execution

Our creative team developed a script that broke down complex themes into digestible, inspiring messaging. We cast professional voice talent to deliver the narration with clarity and warmth, and worked with live-action presenters to bring a human touch to the film.

The mixed media film production approach allowed us to shift seamlessly between animated sequences and live footage, enhancing engagement and allowing for creative storytelling. Each transition was designed to maintain visual continuity while reinforcing the film’s central themes.

Technical Delivery and Distribution

To meet the LGA’s multi-platform needs, we delivered the final film in various formats suitable for online platforms, internal presentations, training sessions, and social media campaigns. Each version retained the integrity of the original production while meeting the unique requirements of its intended platform.

The video has been used across the LGA’s digital channels to promote awareness of the scheme, support recruitment efforts, and communicate with potential applicants. Feedback from stakeholders praised the clarity, tone, and design of the film, highlighting its accessibility and polished finish.
